Adam Cole On Pat McAfee: ‘I’m Gonna Embarrass This Guy At TakeOver XXX”

Adam Cole appeared on this week’s episode of WWE’s The Bump. Cole discussed his upcoming match with Pat McAfee at NXT TakeOver XXX. Here are some highlights:
On thinking the hatchet may have been buried with Pat McAfee:
Cole: “Truthfully and embarrassingly yeah, I did. I mean, I should have known, considering I’ve known Pat for years now, and he’s always been brash, he’s always had an attitude, he’s always kinda gotten on my nerves ever since the first time I met him. So even though I did ‘explode’ on his show, which is not characteristic of me whatsoever, I’ve been known as someone who keeps it very professional on interviews like ones like this. That one, he happened to catch me on the wrong day, said the wrong things. I was irritated that I took time away from my family to come see this guy who’s berating me over and over again and thinks it’s funny. But regardless, I get it, that’s part of his schtick, so when we talked that day, I really did think we had made up, and then stupidly enough, hearing him later on commentary, I knew nothing had changed. He just weaseled his way out of the situation again.”
On what finally made him explode on Pat McAfee:
Cole: “Funny enough, it actually, I think it was a culmination of a lot of different things at one time. Like, so for example, I’m very aware now that my issue is with Pat, but it’s just the idea and this attitude that so many people feel like they can say whatever they wanna say online to whoever they wanna say it to, that that type of mindset drives me nuts. So seeing Pat knowing that he could poke the bear and thinking, ‘Adam’s not gonna do anything, he’s not gonna say anything, he’s just gonna go along with this,’ I was sick of that mentality. I’m very, very tired of people thinking that they can run their mouth, say whatever they want to whoever they want to say it to, and I’m not gonna put up with it anymore.”
On whether he ever thought he’d face Pat McAfee in a match:
Cole: “My god, no. You kidding me? Mainly the biggest reason, he’s not a pro wrestler. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a very, very decorated athlete, the accomplishments that he’s has are countless, and he’s a very successful guy whatever it is that he gets involved in. But to think that at TakeOver XXX, at an anniversary like TakeOver XXX, it would be myself vs Pat McAfee, no, not in a million years did I think that was going to happen”
“I think Pat thinks he’s gonna go in there and showcase this amazing ability that he’s been able to show in every other avenue of his life. The problem is, I’m the best at what I do, I’m the best at NXT, and I’m gonna embarrass this guy at TakeOver XXX.”
