Pro wrestling icon Sweet Daddy Siki, a prominent figure in the Canadian professional wrestling scene and mentor to superstars such as Adam Copeland, better known as “Edge”, and Christian Cage, has died.
As reported by SLAM! Wrestling, Siki died on Tuesday at the ripe age of 91, after a struggle with dementia in recent years.
WWE mourned the loss of Sweet Daddy Siki with a statement:
“The passing of Sweet Daddy Siki deeply saddens WWE. Elkin James, affectionately recognized by wrestling enthusiasts as Sweet Daddy Siki, departed this life on the last day of 2024 at the age of 91.
During the 60s and 70s, Siki made his mark worldwide, wrestling for prestigious promotions like Maple Leaf Wrestling, Grand Prix Wrestling, and Stampede Wrestling. He was a beloved fixture in Toronto’s community. At Sully’s Gym, in Toronto, Canada, he trained numerous aspiring wrestlers, including illustrious WWE Superstars Edge and Christian.
WWE extends heartfelt condolences to Siki’s loved ones and his ardent fans.”
In a separate statement, Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling also commemorated Siki:
“We at MAPLE LEAF PRO express our deepest sympathies to the kin, associates, and admirers of a true Maple Leaf Wrestling LEGEND, Sweet Daddy Siki, who took his last breath on December 31, at the age of 91. Arriving in Toronto in 1961, Siki, over the next several decades, was instrumental in shaping Canadian wrestling’s history and became one of our nation’s finest entertainers and a genuine representative of Canadian wrestling’s potential and promise.
Sweet Daddy, may you rest in peace.”
