Jim Ross recently shared his thoughts on Britt Baker’s eagerly awaited comeback in AEW X NJPW: Forbidden Door 2024, Bryan Danielson’s leadership qualities, and more on an episode of his podcast, “Grilling JR.”

Here are some key excerpts from the podcast:

Regarding Britt Baker’s AEW comeback: “I was thrilled, and the reception was tremendous. These homecomings really make a difference. Britt was warmly welcomed. The audience were ecstatic to see her again. I’m glad she’s back. Everything went pretty smoothly. At the Marriott hotel, we had a brief chat after we arrived. I expressed my joy on seeing her again. She’s the toughest woman here. I’m eager to see how she matches up against Mercedes Mone in terms of skill set. Mercedes Mone requires a powerful adversary. I think Britt will be just what she needs. I expect great things from their matches. The pairing of Britt and Thunder Rosa still lingers in my mind, they had perfect chemistry. I’m looking forward to what the future holds and I hope they can continue this chemistry in the ring. It was a good day.

Discussing his talk with Baker post-show: “I had a pleasant chat with her, and I had the chance to interact with a lot of nice people. They were happy to see me, and I felt the same. This is what makes our wrestling business unique – the camaraderie. It turned out to be a great day. I’m pleased she’s back. She strengthens us, and AEW. I have a lot of time for Britt Baker, she’s a star. Her old match with Thunder Rose was a game-changer for the company’s success.

“Regrettably, Britt had to take a hiatus of approximately a year. Yet, she looked as if she hadn’t skipped a beat. As far as I can tell, she’s in better shape now — she has worked hard to get into top-notch condition both mentally and physically. So, I’m a fan of Britt Baker, and she’ll significantly contribute in the long run. Tony Khan is praiseworthy for effectively restructuring the women’s division. Now, AEW’s women’s division stands strong.”

Considering the lock room leaders in AEW: “For me, it has to be Daniel Bryan. He is a steadying influence and does an excellent job in leading. He occupied the announcer’s dressing room over the weekend. You’d be surprised by how many talents seek his advice and guidance. This week, he’s getting an MRI for his neck, and I hope the results are favorable. He has managed to physically recuperate in the past, but right now, I see him as the locker room lead. He commands respect in his role, and I fully support him. His future in wrestling is bright, even if this is meant to be his last year. I trust his word, although I can’t predict his final match. He does have health concerns. However, I know he’ll be fine.

“He’s a remarkably competent wrestler. I had the chance to sit next to him in the locker room and listen to his match preparation. He’s logical and intelligent. He’s mature, objective, and a great person overall. I’m thankful he’s on our team. Whether he wrestles for another year or another six months, Bryan is genuinely focused on ending his career on his terms. It’s been fascinating to follow his journey from being a raw talent in the Shawn Michaels school in San Antonio to becoming one of the most influential figures in wrestling. He’s vital to our company, and we only realize his worth when we get the chance to work with him.”
