In an exclusive discussion with Sports Illustrated, Zack Sabre Jr. articulated his sentiment that his professional wrestling accomplishments would feel incomplete without securing a victory at the G1 Climax 34 and harnessing the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship title.
In the composed words of Sabre Jr., “It’s probably somewhat dramatic to say that my career will have been a failure if I don’t win both the G1 this year and the IWGP world heavyweight title, but that’s the gut feeling I have – and I’m vegan, so I have a great constitution.”
In his continued discourse, he detailed, “I’m sure that, even in a digital age nowadays, encountering Japanese language leaves a substantial impression on people, but for me, the anticipation of unofficial or rather officially branded VHS tapes in the mail during my adolescent years was a pivotal experience. The wrestling environment was a completely different universe in 2001. And I honestly don’t believe I would have embarked on a pro wrestling career if I hadn’t stumbled upon Japanese wrestling at that juncture. I’ve spent majority of my matured life in Japan compared to any other place, hence I owe more than just my career to the nation. Yet speaking practically, the current atmosphere and the framework of the industry still sync well with my wrestling technique. New Japan is the platform where I can showcase the zenith level of my wrestling skills.”
This weekend, Zack Sabre Jr. is all set for a wrestling showdown against Orange Cassidy at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024.
