Mercedes Mone continues to recover from ankle surgery earlier this year, and there have been several reports that WWE is interested in bringing her back. A report posted on another website stated that AEW’s plans around her were no longer active.
According to a report from Fightful Select, the tentative plans originally called for Mone to work with AEW around the time of All In. At the time, the two sides were far apart on the terms. It isn’t known if the “terms” are related to the dates, schedule, monetary terms, or creative. It’s worth noting that the door has not been closed on the two possibly working together. A headline had been circulating that “plans for Mercedes Mone’s AEW debut canceled” but there was never a report stating that she was going to officially make her debut with the company.
As far as New Japan Pro Wrestling is concerned, they would like to have Mone back. With that being said, she is not currently under contract with the company. As of this writing, there is no word on if there’s ongoing talks between NJPW and Mone.
In recent weeks, there have been some rumblings that WWE is planning on renewing talks with several free agents at the start of 2024. It’s unknown Mone is among them.
It was added that nobody on the WWE creative team has been told to prepare for Mone’s possible return. Just to clarify, there is no word that WWE will be bringing Mone back – only that they are interested in talking to her. A lot of this stuff with Mone started from less than credible wrestling accounts on social media and it spreads quickly.
Mone last competed at NJPW Resurgence in May. She has been out of action since then due to an ankle injury.
