WWE does what’s best for (essential) business.
On Monday, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings revealed WWE was labeled an “essential business” by the Florida Governor’s office, a position that had people questioning what actually made them a crucial operation.
According to a report from CNN, officials stated the essential service order was added “because it is critical to Florida’s economy.” It was also noted that the order was signed on Thursday, allowing employees in professional sports and media production with a national television audience to continue if the location is closed to the general public.

After taping several weeks of shows, including both nights of WrestleMania 36, WWE announced they were returning to a live taping format starting with last night’s RAW. The company also released a statement in defense of the decision, noting the WWE shows were moving forward with the appropriate CDC guidelines because the company was providing a “diversion” from the current circumstances.
“We believe it is now more important than ever to provide people with a diversion from these hard times. We are producing content on a closed set with only essential personnel in attendance following appropriate guidelines while taking additional precautions to ensure the health and wellness of our performers and staff. As a brand that has been woven into the fabric of society, WWE and its Superstars bring families together and deliver a sense of hope, determination and perseverance.”
The state of Florida is currently under a “Safer at Home” order until April 30, with the exception being made towards essential services, activities or businesses.
