As we flagged in our previous update, Ricky Smokes is now part of the illustrious WWE ID program.
Recently, while on the “PW Ponderings” podcast, the champion of the Wrestling Open Tag Team Co-Champion, shared his initial reaction when found out that he was going to be announced as one of the new WWE ID prospects.
Here are some snippets from the podcast:
While talking about his tag team companion Brad Baylor being revealed a couple of nights before, Smokes said, “I knew it was coming. That kid is a total powerhouse, an absolute rocket. The fact that he’s only 20 blows my mind. Just look at Brad Baylor and you know he’s destined for great things. You see him perform week after week, and it irritates people just how good he is. On his own, Baylor has what it takes to dominate the wrestling world, but together, we’re invincible.”
When asked about his personal announcement, he replied, “It’s definitely the pinnacle of my career thus far. Being surrounded by a crowd that usually dismisses me, only to have them recognize and appreciate the significance of the moment was overwhelming. They chanted ‘I deserve it’ and for the first time, I felt like they saw me, really saw me without the facade I usually have to put up. Being ID’d at that particular event made it more special. Having Chase there too, was irreplaceable. My family was also right there with me. Seeing Chase, who had been a constant since I first entered the New England Pro Wrestling Academy, was strikingly authentic and profoundly touching.”
The official WWE Vault YouTube channel reminded fans about the narrative, surrounding the first Elimination Chamber match at the 2002 Survivor Series, which can be watched below:
“At the 2002 Survivor Series, six Raw superstars participated in the inaugural Elimination Chamber Match. The build-up to this iconic world championship event at New York City’s Madison Square Garden involved a three-month-long intermingling rivalry between Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Booker T, Rob Van Dam, Kane, and Chris Jericho.”
