As previously reported on eWn, the renowned CM Punk is in the process of reviewing his contract with WWE, following his comeback to the organization in November 2023.
Renowned wrestling journalist, Dave Meltzer, has reported earlier today that Punk is currently negotiating a contract extension with WWE.
Pwinsider has recently provided a more detailed update on the situation. While it’s certain that Punk and WWE are in the process of re-negotiating a new agreement, some circulating rumors are proven to be false.
Prior speculations inferred Punk was initially signed on a short-term deal after his most recent WWE comeback, and was currently in negotiations for contract expansion. However, credible sources from WWE have confirmed that Punk had originally been signed for a three-year contract in 2023, ensuring his affiliation with the company till November 2026; this does not take into account possible contract increases owing to injury leaves.
Further, there have been numerous suggestions that Punk was seeking for a contract similar to Bret Hart’s from the 1990s, which was a considerable 20-year contract. However, Punk has not proposed or kick-started talks with WWE regarding such an elongated agreement.
The negotiations that are ongoing have been prompted by WWE, with the organization targeting a more comprehensive contract.
In addition to this, an internal source stated that WWE is seeking to secure Punk for a “bigger” deal, citing “new world, huge numbers, merch and socials” as the primary motivators behind this move.
