WWE hopes to continue distancing from Vince McMahon in the upcoming WWE 2K24 video game, though that may be easier said than done.
McMahon re-signed from TKO and WWE last week, following a lawsuit filed by ex-employee Janel Grant, who alleges she was abused and trafficked by the billionaire.
On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that WWE wants McMahon to have no role in the WWE 2K24 video game. He said,
“They are trying to figure out a situation on how to get him out of the video game, which may not be possible and trying to figure out a way to erase him from history, which is completely impossible.”
WWE 2K24 will feature a ‘40 Years of WrestleMania‘ mode, celebrating some of the biggest matches from the Showcase of the Immortals.
McMahon has competed at five WrestleManias and boasts a less-than-impressive 1-4 record at the event. He has also appeared at several WrestleManias in a non-wrestling capacity.
In an effort to distance itself from Vince McMahon, WWE is facing a challenge in removing him from the upcoming WWE 2K24 video game. McMahon recently resigned from TKO and WWE following a lawsuit filed by ex-employee Janel Grant, who accused him of abuse and trafficking.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is attempting to exclude McMahon from the video game. However, this task may prove to be difficult, as they are also trying to find a way to erase him from the history of the company, which Meltzer deems impossible.
WWE 2K24 is set to feature a mode called ’40 Years of WrestleMania,’ which will celebrate some of the most iconic matches from the Showcase of the Immortals. McMahon has participated in five WrestleManias as a competitor, but his record stands at a less-than-impressive 1-4. He has also made appearances at numerous WrestleManias in non-wrestling roles.
The decision to distance WWE from McMahon in the video game is likely a response to the serious allegations made against him by Janel Grant. Grant’s lawsuit alleges that she was subjected to abuse and trafficking by the billionaire. While McMahon’s resignation from TKO and WWE may be seen as a step towards accountability, the company still faces the challenge of addressing his presence in their upcoming video game.
Removing McMahon entirely from WWE 2K24 would require significant changes to the game’s content and storyline. As one of the most influential figures in professional wrestling history, erasing his contributions would be a monumental task. McMahon’s impact on the industry cannot be denied, and his involvement in WrestleMania, both as a competitor and behind the scenes, has left an indelible mark.
However, WWE’s attempt to distance itself from McMahon in the video game is understandable given the seriousness of the allegations against him. The company must balance acknowledging his contributions while also addressing the need for accountability and distancing themselves from his alleged actions.
As WWE continues to navigate this challenging situation, it remains to be seen how they will handle McMahon’s presence in WWE 2K24. The game’s developers will likely face difficult decisions regarding his inclusion and the impact it may have on the overall gameplay experience.
Ultimately, WWE’s goal is to move forward and create a product that reflects their commitment to integrity and accountability. The removal of McMahon from the video game may be a step in that direction, but it is clear that completely erasing his influence from the history of the company will be an impossible task.
