William Regal has expressed discontent over the allegations by certain fans suggesting that he deserted WWE for AEW for the specific purpose of undermining the competition.
Regal bid adieu to AEW in the closing month of 2022 and returned to WWE in order to get more quality time with his progeny – Charlie Dempsey. He reacted to a fan’s tweet thanking him for the valuable contribution he made to NXT in addition to doing an alleged clearing-out operation on the competition (AEW).
In response, he penned an open message, candidly stating, “Just to set the record straight. Although it aligns with some people’s narrative, and given the substantial number of people in AEW who are my core support team, I joined AEW to lend a hand because Bryan Danielson requested it. Challenge is open for anyone to find a person who can counter this claim.”
His response continued, “I dedicated 10 am to 6.15 pm (Eastern Standard Time) to train any interested individuals. Other than restroom breaks and refilling my water bottle, engagement in production meetings was something I deliberately avoided to establish the point that I was there purely to provide assistance. I didn’t take the liberty to question anyone’s contract status. I played my part assisting at the ring with whatever requirements the performers had.”
Pushing further to clarify his position, he stated, “I am giving the authorization to anyone backstage or talent to verify if my work involved anything other than pure assistance. Also, it’s worth mentioning that it wasn’t me who called Tony when his mother fell ill. I picked up his call, and upon finding out her situation, ended the conversation, after which we connected again after a fortnight. Just to clarify, I moved on in December ’28 after my contract tenure ended. This whole information is verifiable. I maintain friendly relationships with a vast majority of the talent and backstage crew. I encourage doing some deep digging into the matter.”
Regal’s assertive statement evidently puts an end to the rumours about his motives behind his brief stint with AEW. As he suggests, it may prove fruitful to dig deeper to unearth the truth rather than believe baseless allegations.
