William Regal Announces Tournament To Crown Interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion, Addresses Pete Dunne’s Status
William Regal made an appearance on The Bump and made a big announcement, revealing WWE will host a tournament to crown an interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion.
Regal joined the show and said due to current champion Jordan Devlin being stuck in the United Kingdom, a tournament to crown an interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion would take place over the course of the next several weeks. WWE will reveal more details, including entrants and the complete bracket, in the next few days.
Devlin has since commented on the matter, posting the following remarks:
First things first, absolutely shocking and disrespectful decision by WWE management. Secondly, you can crown a fraud champion and give him a little replica of my title, but everyone around the world knows who the REAL NXT Cruiserweight Champion still is.
In addition, Regal addressed the status of the NXT Tag Team Championship and said he had some decisions to make due to Pete Dunne being another Superstar facing the international travel restrictions.
As I just announced on @WWETheBump, we will soon begin a tournament to crown an interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion as the current champion, @Jordan_Devlin1 is unable to compete due to the situation in the world.
I will update everyone once all the details are ironed out.
