Will The Usos Win the Tag Titles Back on SmackDown? (Monday Morning Q&A)

Welcome back to another Monday Morning Q&A where I toss out some questions to get a feel of how you guys and gals are feeling about certain topics.

So here are 5 questions I’d like to toss out for this week. I’ll give my answers, too, but the key here is that I want to know what YOU think! So make sure you chime in!

1) What are your predictions for NXT Spring Breakin’?

• Carmelo Hayes retains over Grayson Waller
• Bron Breakker beats Andre Chase
• Pretty Deadly gets locked in the trunk and that’s their NXT sendoff before coming to Raw or SmackDown in the draft (probably Raw)
• Brooks Jensen and Kiana James win the mixed tag match
• Oba Femi beats whoever he’s up against
• I’m on the fence about Lyra Valkyria vs. Cora Jade and the NXT Women’s Championship match. My gut tells me Tiffany Stratton is winning the title, Valkyria is beating Jade, and we’re getting those two down the line. But my brain is telling me if Stratton won, she’d just fight Roxanne at Battleground if Indi were to get called up, which isn’t a certainty, either. There’s a good chance Indi retains here, Jade beats Lyra, and we get Jade beating Indi instead at Battleground.

2) Do you like this Four Pillars Tournament, or do you think MJF should fight all three (Jungle Boy Jack Perry, Darby Allin and Sammy Guevara) in a Four-Way at Double or Nothing?

Absolutely, 100%, unequivocally, it should be a four-way. I don’t see the point in having just one of those guys win the title opportunity. It only makes the other two look like losers, and since we know MJF isn’t going to drop the belt, then that sets up a pretty severe pecking order. At least if it is a four-way, all four can be on closer to equal grounds (minus MJF being still a tier above) and only one of them has to take a pin, rather than all three.

I don’t understand the logic behind this move, as even if that’s the plan, why is this mini three-person tournament (which isn’t even a good tournament structure to begin with) the way to get to that announcement? Why not just have the three of them in showcase matches where they can all beat someone along the way to DON?

3) Do you like the current WWE Draft structure of splitting it between two shows?

I can’t say I love it, but I also can’t deny that I understand their logic. If both Raw and SmackDown were on the same network, it could likely just be an episode of Raw. But when you know there’s a high chance it has a better rating just by having the draft name attached to it, why wouldn’t you try to split the difference and get twice the better ratings? Plus, Fox and USA both feel on equal ground—”Hey, you get the KICKOFF of the draft. And you, you get the FINALE of the draft. Eh? Great!”

But to be perfectly honest, for efficiency’s sake, I do wish WWE just cut to the chase, stopped having the draft on 5 hours of television with matches that have nothing to do with it, and then, supplemental announcements on social media. As a viewer, I would rather watch an hour or 2 of just listing the names and that being the end of it, like a real draft.

4) Do you think The Usos are winning back the tag team titles on SmackDown?

At the moment, yes. Not only could the draft have something to do with a potential title change and splitting up the championships (or some sort of wonky finish that leads to the belts being split in two with both teams holding gold), I think Night of Champions being in Saudi Arabia poses a good threat to Owens and Zayn retaining. The likelihood they’ll defend the titles is slim, and unless WWE is just going with the Night of Champions name and not trying to continue the legacy of all belts on the line, then they’d have to drop them at some point.

Since Roman Reigns doesn’t seem to be in danger of losing his title any time soon, and WWE seems so hell-bent on just repeating the same story with The Bloodline as we’re back to the “Roman can’t trust The Usos…ooooo…tension” deal, then yeah, we’re probably looking at a reset to what we were before Mania.

5) How do you feel about Wardlow winning the TNT Championship back from Powerhouse Hobbs?

It all feels so pointless to me. Why take the belt off Wardlow, give it to Samoa Joe, have him lose it to Darby Allin, win it back, drop it to Wardlow, have him lose it to Hobbs, and then win it back? Why not just have Wardlow lose it to Hobbs and win it back and skip all the Joe and Allin stuff? Or have Wardlow retain it all this time?

I guess it’s good for those guys to have another check mark on their list of accolades, but this smells of second-guessing and not having a plan. It doesn’t help that I think the Arn Anderson manager spot for Wardlow is weird, too.

I’m all for Wardlow holding the belt and keeping him away from MJF. I just don’t think this hot potato booking was in any way effective.
