Kota Ibushi has already lost the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship as Will Ospreay won the main event of Sakura Genesis to capture the title.
When the match ended, United Empire continued to beat-down Ibushi while Ospreay called out Kazuchika Okada for revenge from his Wrestle Kingdom 15 loss. Okada came out to the ring to confront Ospreay but they were both interrupted by Shingo Takagi who demanded he get a shot at the IWGP World Heavyweight Title. Ospreay said Shingo would be first followed by Okada.
This is the first time that Ospreay has held the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship for NJPW.
