Will Ospreay recently joined the “Insight” podcast and expressed his strong belief in the potential and current success of AEW. According to him, it is the leading wrestling show in North America at this time.
Ospreay made his statement quite clear, “Any doubts about AEW does not exist in my mind. The style, the format, the genre – it is all the best in North America currently. My aim is to drive this point home. My ambition is to be at the top of this. I’m looking forward to seeing more classic shows being churned out with a similar spirit.”
Asked why he specifically mentioned North America and not globally, Ospreay clarified, “Michael Cole commented that their focus is more on sports and narration. That’s valid. More than valid. Our approach is based more on professional wrestling. That’s amazing. He has been the voice of WWE for three decades now. That’s why they’re successful – amazing storytelling. But we also have amazing content to share. It is a fantastic time, both for us and them. Every wrestling show in North America with TV coverage is performing amazingly and producing fantastic content. Professional wrestling is thriving at the moment.“
In her “Mone Mag” newsletter, TBS Champion Mercedes Mone made a clear distinction between her wrestling avatar and her real identity.
Here are few extracts from the newsletter:
On the contrast between her onstage persona and her real identity: “In my interview, I looked back on how my actual self differs significantly from my wrestling avatar, Mercedes Moné. There are similarities between my real identity, Mercedes Varnado, and my wrestling profile, but they are also very distinct. Mercedes Moné is like a superhero, an extravagant personality that represents confidence, strength, style, and intense determination. This persona lets me exhibit a side of me that I usually find hard to show in my regular life.”
On her homely self: “Away from the lights and glamour of professional wrestling, I prefer a quiet, cozy life at home. My favorite look includes comfy sweatpants and a simple top, with no makeup or wig. I find immense comfort in a relaxed state, just spending time with my dogs, away from the public gaze.”
Lastly, on a recent episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry shared his thoughts on the AEW Women’s World Title match featuring Toni Storm and Mariah May. He voiced his opinion that the match should have been the highlight of AEW Revolution 2025.
Henry stated, “This match deserved the prime spotlight, it should have wrapped up the grand pay-per-view. I would have cut short every match by five minutes. Even when stars like Cope and Moxley are involved, when you know what’s best, you go with it, irrespective of the star power.”
