As you might have heard, Don Callis made an announcement on AEW Dynamite hinting at his search for fresh faces to join his faction. This follows injuries to Brian Cage and Mark Davis, as well as Lance Archer’s departure after losing to Brody King. As it stands, their stable is undergoing a big transformation, and Callis is welcoming those who wish to be a part of this exciting journey.
And so, our big question for today is: “Who should be the next member of The Don Callis Family?” Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.
Before I present my personal opinion…
Allow me to express my happiness that AEW is pulling off such changes smoothly. Unlike WWE where any alteration in the faction’s constitution tends to be rather tedious and convoluted, AEW excels in making such modifications seamlessly. The Judgment Day faction’s experience in incorporating a new member is a classic example.
In my view, the next entrant to The Don Callis Family should bring something unique that the group lacks at the moment. It should be someone who would benefit from the faction, rather than being there for namesake. This rules out individuals like The Butcher or The Beast Mortos, who either do not match the group’s vibe or are engaged with other factions.
Looking at the current AEW lineup, I hardly see any suitable candidate. Several directionless superstars do not align with Callis’s faction. Scorpio Sky and Ortiz, despite their absence from the ring for a while, do not seem like a right fit for this family. And adding someone like Kevin Knight would only clutter the faction with individuals having similar rankings like Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita.
Although I would prefer to see them in WWE, Hammerstone and Jeff Cobb seem like the perfect fit for The Don Callis Family if they become available to AEW. They would adequately fill the void of Cage, Archer, and Davis, offering a completely different dynamic compared to Fletcher and Takeshita.
Another name worth mentioning is Bishop Dyer (previously known as Baron Corbin). His heel-like persona has always attracted criticism but I believe he is underestimated. I am not suggesting him as a World Title contender, but his stature and attitude make him a good fit in Callis’s team.
Moreover, Dijak deserves some attention. Despite his talent, he has been constantly overlooked. AEW could be a good platform for him to showcase his skills. Perhaps Akam and Rezar from AOP could also work, provided they are not reduced to their previous roles.
