Who Should Be WWE’s Women’s United States Champion? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another installment of the eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

Last Friday brought us the news of a fresh wrestling title known as the WWE Women’s United States Championship. A title we’ve discussed in the past, it has months later become a reality. While we still don’t know the contenders for it or the means of crowning the champion, todays question is: “Who should be the initial women’s united states champion to bag this belt?”

Feel free to share your thoughts and predictions in the comments below.

In terms of my personal prediction…

Since this is a SmackDown-only title, and it’s unlikely that women from NXT or anyone from Raw will win it, our choices are limited to: Bayley, B-Fab, Bianca Belair, Blair Davenport, Candice LeRae, Chelsea Green, Elektra Lopez, Jade Cargill, Michin, Naomi, Nia Jax, Piper Niven, Tiffany Stratton, and the possibility of returns from the likes of Alexa Bliss or Charlotte Flair, to extend the list.

I’d quickly dismiss several candidates. B-Fab and Elektra Lopez are not competitors. Nia Jax is already the women’s champion. Tiffany Stratton possesses the Money in the Bank title. Candice LeRae has the Women’s Speed Championship, but it oddly doesn’t appear on TV. This narrows the field significantly.

Given the current state of affairs, and the fact that there are heavyweights available who will bring more fame to this title, I’d eliminate Blair Davenport and Piper Niven as well.

Now we’re left with Bayley, Bianca Belair, Chelsea Green, Jade Cargill, Michin, and Naomi.

I don’t see Bayley winning this title just after her championship run. She can win it later, but not just yet.

Belair and Cargill possess great potential as champions, but they currently hold the tag titles. Unless one of them runs with the new title and instigates a feud over it, leading to a major showdown at WrestleMania 41, this may rule them out. Still, this remains a possibility.

Michin and Naomi seem to be in the same category. Neither is likely to win the premier women’s title any time soon, or possibly ever. While Michin’s recent push might push her into the spotlight, she could also be a stepping stone. Giving the title to Naomi may appease her fans and her status as a former champion adds prestige to the title.

My personal choice is Chelsea Green. She’s a fascinating character but not one expected to secure a WWE Women’s Championship or Women’s World Championship. There’s only so much she can achieve in a tag team, and I’d like to see her strike out on her own.

My prediction would follow either of the two paths. One, Green wins the title, engages in a feud with Bayley or Naomi, and triumphs, before losing to a villainous Jade around the Royal Rumble. This sets up Belair for the possibility of a title win and continuation of her winning streak. Or secondly, Green lifts the title, leading to a match involving the top 6 contenders at Mania. Ultimately, Cargill defeats Belair for the belt.

Overall, while I am leaning towards Green, any of the top six contenders could make a fine champion. Here’s hoping for a memorable Mania match, regardless of who secures the title.
