Who is designated as “Mr. SummerSlam” in the realm of WWE wrestling?

We’re amping up for another round of eWrestlingNews Thought-provoker of the Day! We’re on the countdown to WWE SummerSlam 2024, happening this Saturday, which means a lot of our topics this week will revolve around The Biggest Fiesta of the Summer in some regard.

Today, we’re opting for a bit of wrestling nostalgia. Shawn Michaels, known as “Mr. WrestleMania” for his memorable performances, is common knowledge. But if we switch the arena and time of year to SummerSlam, who would you pick as their equivalent? Are there some personalities that make a strong impression? “Who is Mr. SummerSlam?”

Feel free to drop your thoughts in the comment section.

My two cents…

Back in 2020, CM Punk mentioned Bret Hart as his top pick for this title, and considered himself the second choice. Subsequently, in 2022, BT Sport came up with a list of nominees, including Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Bret Hart, The Undertaker, and Edge.

If I’m tossing names into the hat, John Cena would be there, and without forgetting the ladies, I’d include Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair (of course, their title would be Ms. SummerSlam). When SummerSlam comes up in my mind, I generally think of Macho Man Randy Savage. However, against the other contenders, I’m not certain he’d be the collective favorite.

Over the years, I think Orton has been the most frequent face at SummerSlam, possibly with the best track record. The Undertaker might surpass this, though, if my memory does me justice. Interestingly, despite his regular top-billing at the event, Cena might have more losses than wins.

I lean toward Orton or Lesnar when contemplating who could be the top contender. While I adore Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker and consider Bret Hart highly, their amazing performances at SummerSlam (including their triangular match) don’t quite convince me to name them Mr. SummerSlam.

Forced to choose, my nod goes to Randy, but on a different day, I might waver between Lesnar and Hart.
