Jerry Lawler, a household name in the WWE commentary circuit, often gets associated with audacious comments during the Attitude Era. Many of his remarks, had they been uttered in the present day, would not indeed even make it to the broadcasting booth. One of his notorious catchphrases, “puppies”, a candid reference to WWE Divas’ bosoms, remained a staple in his commentary from the late ’90s to the early years of the following decade.

In a candid conversation with Denise Salcedo, Lawler lifted the curtain on the true origins of the term which surprisingly was not his brainchild. According to Lawler, it was his fellow WWE colleague Road Dogg who initially used the term in a promo directed towards Sable. Revisiting the incident he mentioned,

“I wish I could say yes, but I can’t. Road Dogg came out and said during an interview — I’m pretty sure it was to Sable — ‘Hey, let us see your puppies,’ and it got a huge reaction. It just stuck in my mind, and I started using it week after week. So I became the guy most associated with it. But to give proper credit, Road Dogg started it.”
