In a recent conversation with Shakiel Mahjouri from CBS Sports, the professional wrestler known as GUNTHER opened up about his early days in the wrestling industry and the challenges he faced trying to keep up with his day job, his aspirations of entering the WWE Bash in Berlin as a World Champion and more.

The following are some memorable moments from GUNTHER’s interview.

Talking about his struggle to manage his regular night job while starting his career in wrestling, he said: “I juggled a regular job working purely night shifts, lasting near to three years, while wrestling during the weekends. This presented a challenge that was tough to handle over time. My aspiration had always been to earn a living from professional wrestling. However, that seemed an unreachable dream, so I contemplated giving up and entirely focusing on my established career.”

Narrating how he landed a deal to be a coach for wXw, he said: “I put forth a proposal to [wXw] to either put me in charge of their wrestling school or else I would consider quitting. They were receptive to my proposal. They were keen on starting a wrestling school. They hired me, and since then, professional wrestling has been my primary profession.”

When reflecting on his journey and how it would feel if, ten years ago, he was told he would be a part of WWE, he stated: “It was beyond my wildest dreams. The possibilities were not that high, and they remained low for the majority of my career because WWE did not embrace the independent circuit as it does now. Their view changed significantly when they began recruiting guys from the indie scene and started to open up to the global wrestling community. It’s been a quite the journey to get here, but now, I am ready to relish this opportunity.”

Reacting to the idea of being the World Heavyweight Champion at the WWE Bash in Berlin, he said: “It would stand as the pinnacle of my career. It’s self-explanatory, really. It’s the title of the world’s heavyweight champion. It’s the ultimate prize one can achieve in this craft. That would not only be a massive accomplishment but also a considerable responsibility and challenge. But that’s what I signed up for. My aim is to be among the best and to go toe-to-toe with all of them. To prove my worth in that aspect.”
