As we venture into wrestling debate for another Question of the Day brought to you by eWrestlingNews, let’s shine the spotlight on AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2024 which occurred last night!

The Forbidden Door event has concluded, giving us some significant moments to ponder over. Today’s question doesn’t require any extravagant lead-in. Here it is:

“In your view, what was the most outstanding point and most disappointing aspect of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door III?”

Be it a positive or negative, identify a title shift, a surprising match outcome, an exceptional or subpar quality of a match, or even how technical issues interrupted your viewing experience. What made you exclaim in delight or sigh in disappointment during this pay-per-view event?

Meanwhile, here are my thoughts after letting the dust settle.

Biggest Letdown of Forbidden Door

Was the most creative idea they had for MJF to push him into an uneventful opening match against Hechicero? Come on! The man has been the face of the company for the past year, boasting consistently high performance. This is his comeback, and we get this?

There might have been a few other letdowns, like Kyle Fletcher versus Serpentico, or even Mariah May’s and Saraya’s inconsequential role in this crossover event. However, those just tip the balance further towards the “every AEW event is crammed” scale.

MJF’s questionable use is a concern because it feels like they don’t have concrete plans for him, even though he should be in the spotlight. The stories developing with MJF, Will Ospreay, and Daniel Garcia could have led to better action like a team-up against two wrestlers from CMLL, leading to a well-crafted feud.

This, on the other hand, felt hasty and unprepared like Tony Khan’s whim of seeing these two competitors in the ring.

Although not atrocious, will anyone recall this encounter by year-end, let alone consider it optimal booking?

Biggest Triumph of Forbidden Door

Gobally, the matches were satisfying. That’s the most straightforward response.

But delving deeper, my personal highlight was the closing bout. Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland’s showdown was my pick of the event, and the conclusion sparked a couple of intriguing deliberations.

Swerve shows more aggression than Ospreay, which could be a hint towards a heel turn. Plus, Ospreay’s refusal to resort to the screwdriver, resisting Don Callis’s influence, fuels the narrative of his impending break away from Callis.

Ospreay’s resilience even after the expected “capitalize on the distraction and win” moment also suggests that he was a credible contender for the title. Weren’t the falsified conclusions fooling you into believing Ospreay might clinch it? I was definitely swayed, assuming Strickland’s retention was certain.

They’ll undoubtedly square off again in the future. Based on this encounter, not only is the rematch promised to be stellar, but Ospreay might emerge victorious.
