Wes Lee’s days as WWE NXT North American Champion may be over, but merely holding the gold was an accolade that Lee never predicted would happen.

Lee’s title reign began at NXT Halloween Havoc last October and his 269-day record is the longest individual reign with the gold.

In an interview with “Fox News Digital,” Lee shared how much it meant for him to hold the title. He said,

“It means something to me more outside of a selfish aspect. I never saw myself as a champion and being able to capture the championship really allowed for me to see myself in an entire different light.”

Lee’s title victory saw him defeat current NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes, Nathan Frazer, Oro Mensah, and Von Wagner in a ladder match, His reign was ended by Dominik Mysterio earlier this month.
