During her recent stint on the podcast “Ring The Bell,” Wendi Richter shared her views on the notorious incident where The Fabulous Moolah unexpectedly defeated her. Richter referred to the shocking event, orchestrated by Vince McMahon, as the Original Screwjob.
She believes that the incident inadvertently resulted in a silver lining thanks to McMahon.
In the heart of the year 1985, The Fabulous Moolah claimed victory over Richter in an unplanned spectacle masterminded by McMahon. This unexpected twist was intended to shift the WWF Women’s Championship into Moolah’s hands.
Some noteworthy moments from Richter’s podcast interview follow below:
Commenting on the continuous public fascination with the event, Richter explained: “You know, it just never has gone away. I’m over it. After that transpired, I found faith — I’m a reborn Christian, and I decided to educate myself further. So, in a strange way, Vince actually did me a favor because I now hold a master’s degree. That’s something no one can ever strip from me. However, it’s a stark reminder that life isn’t always fair, and one needs to move forward.”
Reflecting on the frustration she felt during that time, she recounts: “I was so personally hurt by that because my shoulders weren’t pinned, I kicked out, and they just [counted to three] with my shoulders off the mat, and that was the end of it. Had that not occurred, I might still be associated with WWE, like Moolah was, for countless years.”
