Warrior Wrestling 7’s ‘Rascalz vs. Chaos’ Provided A Surreal Experience For Fans And The Locker Room

The Watch List takes a look at what matches you should be watching while you’re at home and they come recommended by your favorite professional wrestling stars.

WrestleZone recently spoke with Warrior Wrestling’s Steve Tortorello for our annual “Best For The Business” series. This edition of the Watch List is unique in the fact that it’s the first time we’ve had multiple people choose the same match, The Rascalz versus Will Ospreay, Amazing Red and Rocky Romero at Warrior Wrestling 7.

Last year, Trey Miguel spoke with WrestleZone and chose this match because Amazing Red became an inspiration to him, and he couldn’t believe he not only worked with one of his heroes, but it was everything he hoped it would be.

“If you can hold your own against any of those three it really says a lot about you. To do that match and then have some of the experiences and talks after the match, it was just—if you go back and watch the match, once it’s over you just see Dez, Zach and I just balling our eyes out. I sat down on the bottom rope because I just couldn’t keep tears from falling out of my eyes. It’s probably the best feeling that wrestling has ever given me in my entire life. They always say don’t meet your heroes because your heroes will crush your dreams or they’re not what you’re expecting. I met my heroes that day and they were just the most amazing people to work with, and then to get some feedback and to create some memories and bonds that I did,” Trey said. “I don’t know how I’d ever be able to pay that back. I thought that this is probably the coolest thing to ever happen to me.”

When asked if he could pick a favorite match or event he hosted with Warrior, Tortorello also pointed to the same event, referring to the Rascalz match as part of the “back nine” of their strongest event ever. Noting it was a hard choice to make in general, he said one event stands out above them all.

“Warrior Wrestling 7 stands out as having a great mix of all of the things that we try to do. There’s a couple of great lucha matches on there, there’s a great heavyweight match with Sam Adonis and Michael Elgin, and then in the back-half—we joke that the ‘back nine’ or Warrior Wrestling 7, from intermission onwards—is maybe the strongest ‘back nine’ we’ve ever done. It’s Lance Archer and Brian Pillman Jr, then Minoru Suzuki and Tom Lawlor, then Brian Cage and ELP and then the big match, The Rascalz versus [Will] Ospreay, Amazing Red and Rocky Romero. I put that up against any four-match streak anywhere. So if someone’s listening and they’ve never watched Warrior Wrestling,” Tortorello explained, “right now on the top of my mind is Warrior 7. Start there and if you’ve got time, start there at intermission and go from there.”

After mentioning Trey had picked his match from the same event, Tortorello explained how truly captivating the match was for the fans and wrestlers.

“I can tell you another fun story about that match—normally we beam all of the matches in, the ‘green room’ for the wrestlers is the cafeteria of our student union. It’s got all of these TVs all around it. We stream the show to all of those TVs while the wrestlers are eating after their matches or preparing, whatever, they can watch the show as it’s going on live. Literally, the entire locker room came out of the cafeteria and through the curtain and they were watching that match in the arena. All of the Luchadors were maskless, sitting on the bleachers watching. Brian Cage, who had wrestled the previous match, went back to the cafeteria and grabbed a plate full of pizza and came out, took his boots off,” Tortorello explained, “he was in trunks, bare feet and a plate full of pizza, sitting on the stage and watching The Rascalz match. It was surreal. That tells you the caliber of that match because of the way the boys and girls all reacted to it.

We added some free-to-watch recommendations to the list and selected a good mix of bouts from the Warrior Wrestling library; you can check out the match from Warrior Wrestling 7 in its entirety for free on Highspots at this link.
