The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is now reporting that some people in Warner Bros. Discovery are of the opinion that the company shouldn’t have made the statement on Punk.

The belief is that Warner Bros. Discovery should have stayed out of the matter and let things take their natural course.

People in Warner Bros. Discovery hoped for the matter to blow over, like previous issues with Punk they were aware of.

As we previously reported here on eWn, Punk’s ally Ace Steel was allegedly hired back by AEW several months ago, and that he had been working remotely.

AEW President Tony Khan made the decision not to have Steel on the road in order to refrain from making other people uncomfortable.

However, there was said to be a miscommunication with lawyers, and that caused Punk to be removed from the AEW Collision announcement.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that several AEW sources have denied reports of Steel being rehired by the company. The denial comes from “the top” of AEW.

However, people close to Steel have stated that it was a “closely kept secret” and that he would return at AEW Collision.

As it turns out, AEW higher-ups were unaware and most still didn’t have any knowledge until this week. The wrestlers were surprised upon learning the news a couple of weeks ago.

All Elite Wrestling released Steel at the end of last year due to his involvement in the backstage brawl at AEW All Out 2023.
