Warner Bros. Discovery appears to have assumed a more inflexible stance when it comes to explicit content within their broadcasts. Previous episodes of AEW Dynamite were heavy with explicit language, yet recent broadcasts have shown evidence of an uptick in censorship.
Notably, the AEW Dynamite episode that aired on June 26 exhibited several instances where particular words and phrases were silenced, MJF’s promo being one example.
Dave Meltzer, commenting on Wrestling Observer Radio, emphasized the obvious alteration in Warner Bros. Discovery’s profanity policy, sighting even the censoring of mild language, which wasn’t common before.
Meltzer stated, “There’s definitely something that’s changed in WBD when it comes to language because they were bleeping tame stuff and they used to let almost everything go. Somebody somewhere has decided that what they were doing before is no longer kosher.”
Despite the alterations, AEW hasn’t abandoned its gritty content, continuing to feature blood and violence depictions. However, it’s not clear yet if Warner Bros. Discovery will also start to critically examine the degree of violence portrayed in AEW’s programming.
