Vince Russo has openly criticized WWE for sabotaging the anticipatory excitement around the World Heavyweight Championship bout at WrestleMania 41 involving GUNTHER.
This showpiece event airing April 2025 will see GUNTHER defending his title against Jey Uso, who clinched victory in the 2025 men’s Royal Rumble showdown.
Not mincing words in “The Brand” podcast, Russo delivered a scathing assessment of WWE’s handling of the build-up and their treatment of the Austrian Superstar. His words were,
“Just when the hype should be building for WrestleMania, WWE decides to downplay GUNTHER. This has rendered the match almost irrelevant. GUNTHER, instead of the devastating villain he should be, is not dominating his contenders as he should be leading up to WrestleMania. And quite honestly, they’re not evening up GUNTHER’s match booking. It’s more like 25-75, with GUNTHER on the losing end. And this very man is your champion.”
Living up to an equalized record in WrestleMania, GUNTHER emerged victorious over Drew McIntyre & Sheamus in 2023, but fell short against Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40 in 2024.
