Wrestling enthusiasts may find themselves spoiled for choice with ample content provided every week. However, Vince Russo has raised concerns that this might not be a positive development for viewers.
In a recent episode of his podcast, “Writing With Russo,” Russo opined on the speculated expansion of SmackDown to a three-hour time slot on the USA Network.
He believes that the rise in the volume of content could detrimentally impact the viewers’ interest, leading to a decline in the ‘must-see’ feel of the show. Russo expressed his concern saying,
“Three hours RAW, three hours SmackDown, two hours NXT, two hours [AEW] Dynamite. Are you [joking]? Moreover, there was once a time when some shows were branded as must-see TV. But, when wrestling runs for 10 hours, no part of it is must-see; absolutely none of it becomes imperative viewing.”
Furthermore, it was recently announced that WWE SmackDown will be back on the USA Network, after a five-year stint on FOX that did not quite meet the network’s projected ratings.
As for WWE RAW, it will conclude its term on the USA Network as a two-hour show from next month. It will then move to the streaming giant, Netflix, in early 2025.
