This year marks a first for WWE as it prepares to immortalize its first-ever ‘Eternal Moment’ into the Hall of Fame, the famous Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin bout from WrestleMania 13 in 1997.
In a recent episode of his “BroDown” podcast, Vince Russo expressed reservations about the concept, questioning what will qualify as a deserving candidate. His comments were,
“I don’t understand the logic behind the moments… I’m just curious. Are they going to be any entertainment moments? Is Steve Austin driving a beer truck into the arena? Is that a moment? Or does the moment have to be a match?”
Russo further raised the possibility that WWE’s move to incorporate historical bouts and moments into its induction ceremonies might be an attempt to create a new revenue channel. His skepticism is apparent in his comment,
“Why is this? Because they’ll get somebody to sponsor it and they’ll make another payday on? ‘Hey, you want to sponsor the match of the year that’s going into the Hall of Fame?’ Boom.”
Known for its symbols of honor, the Hall of Fame ceremony this time will crown Hart as the premier three-time inductee following his recognitions in 2006 and as a member of Hart Foundation in 2019.
The ceremony scheduled this year also has an impressive roster with the likes of Triple H, Michelle McCool, Lex Luger, and the Natural Disasters set to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
