Vince Russo On The Level Of Sexism Sable Faced In WWE

The level of sexism that Rena ‘Sable’ Lesnar faced in WWE cannot be compared to anything else, according to Vince Russo.

Sable joined the then-WWF in 1996 and would become the most featured woman of the Attitude Era before her exit in 1999.

Following her departure, Sable would file a $110 million lawsuit against the company, claiming she experienced sexual harassment and unsafe work conditions.

Speaking on “Busted Open Radio,” Russo, who became WWE’s Head Writer during this time, recalled how Sable was treated behind the scenes. He said,

“What I witnessed was a level of sexism in the wrestling business that I never experienced before in my life. It was the ‘good ol’ boys’ club.

“As a writer, bro, I don’t care if you’re male, female, black, white, a chimpanzee; I could care less. If you draw ratings, you’re gonna be on the show. Period. End of story. And Sable was drawing ratings. What happened was she was getting so over, she was getting a  lot of TV time, and the good ol’ boys didn’t like a female taking their television time. And bro, I can tell you as a fact, I’m not gonna say who it is, but literally, a top guy got in Vince’s ear, and the next thing you know, Sable is managing The Parade of Human Oddities.”

Sable would return to WWE in 2003 before leaving again in 2004 to spend more time with her family.
