The events of WCW Bash at the Beach 2000 resulted in Vince Russo being sued by Hulk Hogan but it was all worth it to make Booker T the WCW World Champion.
The infamous 2000 event saw Hogan use his creative control to defeat Jeff Jarrett for the WCW World title with Jarrett laying down to take the pinfall loss.
Post-match, Hogan would cut a promo, blaming Russo for the finish, while Russo would cut a worked shoot later in the show against Hogan.
While the Hulkster knew Russo would cut a promo, Hogan felt that the promo went too far, resulting in a defamation lawsuit.
In his recent appearance on “Busted Open,” Russo recalled the event, in which he would vacate the WCW World Title, which Booker T would win later that night. He said,
“My proudest moment in everything I did in the wrestling business — all the companies I worked for — my proudest moment was that moment [when Booker T won the WCW world title.]
“It was worth … it was worth the lawsuit, it was worth the depositions, it was worth everything Hogan put me through. To give a man [Booker T], who for 14 years clearly had the thumb on him and could not get past it, and I had the opportunity that, ‘You know what, no matter what the price is you’re going to have to pay, this guy deserves it. You’re going do the right thing.’”
Hogan’s lawsuit was dismissed in 2003 with a ruling that the charges filed against Russo were “groundless” and “were just part of a wrestling storyline.“
