“Who knows with the WWE, how long I would have stayed (in 1990) after that because I could have been fired like I would have been had I taken that job five years ago. I would have been fired almost immediately.

“There is no question. There is no question, in my mind, that Vince wanted me to come there to fire me. Yeah, I believe that.

“He wanted to hire me. I feel bad about Bruce [Bruce Prichard] because Bruce is in the middle of this and Bruce is a friend of mine and I believe anything Bruce tells me is legit and sincere. Vince wanted to hire me to keep me away from this upstart company AEW. COVID happened, they cut back, why not cut back on one of the newest guys that just arrived? There is no question I would have been let go.”

Schiavone has been with AEW since 2019. In addition to serving as a commentator for the company, he serves as a senior producer.

Tony Schiavone, a prominent figure in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), recently revealed that he believes Vince McMahon, the chairman and CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), was prepared to hire him solely to keep him away from AEW. Schiavone shared his thoughts on his podcast, “What Happened When.”

During the podcast, Schiavone discussed his previous work with the WWF (now WWE) in the early 1990s and speculated on how a potential return could have unfolded. He expressed his belief that McMahon would have hired him with the intention of firing him shortly after. Schiavone stated, “There is no question, in my mind, that Vince wanted me to come there to fire me.”

Schiavone also mentioned that he feels bad for his friend Bruce Prichard, who works for WWE, as he believes Prichard was caught in the middle of this situation. According to Schiavone, McMahon wanted to hire him to prevent him from joining AEW, which he referred to as an “upstart company.” However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent cutbacks, Schiavone speculated that he would have been one of the first to be let go if he had joined WWE.

Since 2019, Schiavone has been an integral part of AEW, serving as a commentator and senior producer for the company. His contributions have been well-received by fans and have helped establish AEW as a major player in the professional wrestling industry.

This revelation from Schiavone sheds light on the competitive nature between WWE and AEW. Both companies have been vying for top talent and viewership, leading to speculation and rumors about potential signings and behind-the-scenes strategies.

As wrestling fans, it’s always interesting to get insights into the inner workings of the industry. Schiavone’s comments provide a glimpse into the mindset of Vince McMahon and the lengths he may go to protect his company’s position in the market.
