During a recent talk with “The Ringer,” renowned sportscaster Michael Cole opened up about his experiences of taking directives from Vince McMahon while performing commentary duties for WWE. He notably pointed out numerous incidents where the erstwhile WWE Chairman made some comments that were deemed “inappropriate.”
Here are the key takeaways from the intriguing podcast:
Speaking about the pivotal role of a commentator, Cole mentioned, “A staggering 95 percent of individuals who have ever entered that ring have relied on a commentator to narrate their story to the fans.”
When asked about his tenure as the primary announcer for RAW, Cole said, “Only four individuals have occupied this chair for a considerable length of time. They are Gorilla Monsoon, Vince McMahon, Jim Ross, and myself, Michael Cole.”
Addressing his professional relationship with Vince McMahon, Cole admitted, “I won’t deny it, there have been instances where his comments have crossed a line. In those situations, I would confront him after the show and express my dissent. Although he appreciated my straightforwardness, I still faced reluctance from others who saw me as McMahon’s puppet. Looking back, while there might have been some truth to that notion, I am not a rebel. I was there to earn a living and secure the future of my family. When tasked with a job by your employer, you proceed to do it. Despite the circumstances, I firmly believe I was an excellent announcer during that time.”
