In the wake of recent accusations, Vince McMahon, former WWE Chairman, has adamantly refuted allegations of sexual assault made by Rita Chatterton, asserting that the encounter they had was entirely consensual.

Chatterton, who holds the distinction of being the first female referee in WWE history, has long maintained that she was sexually assaulted by McMahon in his limousine in July 1986. This is a claim that McMahon categorically denies.

Netflix’s docuseries, Mr.McMahon features a segment where McMahon once more disputes the allegations. He laments being labeled a rapist because of these allegations and is quoted as saying, “Once you’re accused of rape, you’re a rapist. But it was consensual and actually, had it been a rape the statute of limitations had run out. So it’s all kind of crap like that that people are digging up trying to find something on you.”

In December 2022, a significant development took place when Chatterton took legal action, lodging an .75 million lawsuit against McMahon. This came just months after McMahon had stepped down from his role at WWE due to issues surrounding alleged hush-money payments.

Interestingly, the case was concluded out of court within that same month and it was reported that a settlement involving millions of dollars was awarded, though the exact amount remains undisclosed.

However, the attorney for McMahon maintains his client’s innocence, stating that the decision to settle was influenced by a desire to “avoid the cost of litigation.”
