The recently-aired initial two episodes of WWE NXT on The CW Network are currently tagged with a TV-14 grade. Both The CW App and YouTube TV also categorize the premiere episodes and several subsequent ones as TV-14. This strikes a contrast from its former rating of TV-PG on the USA Network.
In the ongoing docuseries titled Mr. McMahon, streaming live on Netflix, the now-infamous ex-WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, unveiled that it “was effortless” for him to step into the persona of his on-air WWE character, ‘Mr. McMahon’. He voiced the following:
“Naturally, Mr. McMahon is a character that stems from Vince McMahon, and is a persona that resonated with me during my formative years. I remember coming from a poverty-stricken background. Growing up in such an environment, I developed a distaste for affluent individuals, primarily due to my past experiences with those who thought they were superior simply because they had quote, ‘more money’. Such experiences made one feel insignificant, as if you were a nonentity. You learn particular aspects from such experiences. I had a knack for combat in those days, and greatly relished it. Gaining expertise in that was a way to establish one’s identity. Despite being good at it, people would accuse me of not playing fair, and resorting to dishonourable tactics. Well, I used to retort, ‘At the end of the day, I still triumphed’. Based on these personal memories, I created the character, Mr. McMahon, that portrays someone who strong-arms others, akin to how I perceived well-off individuals during my upbringing, using intimidation as a tool. Playing an imperious character who throws his weight around and can be a bully, was straightforward for me as I was familiar with all those aspects I detest.”
