Matt Hardy, the former WWE and AEW competitor, recently unveiled his Mattitude persona’s almost transformation into something controversial. As dictated by WWE Chief Vince McMahon, Hardy was almost asked to ‘portray an African American’.

This gimmick came into existence after Hardy split from his brother Jeff in 2002. Mattitude was conceptualized as a way of life, an idea Hardy propagated for others to emulate.

In a recent TikTok shared by his spouse Reby, Hardy recollected McMahon’s concept. At that point, the ex-WWE Chairman wanted Hardy to team up with Mark Henry. Matt recalled,

“He proposed an idea. ‘You have the ability to rap and emulate African American behavior, right?’ Vince had the intention of portraying ‘Mattitude’ as a state of oppression, akin to the experience of an African American. Fortunately, this plan didn’t see the light of day. I believe Mark wouldn’t have allowed it. But then, teaming up with Mark Henry was envisioned by Vince McMahon because he was aware of our legendary freestyle rants on foreign bus trips.”

As years rolled, Hardy and Henry found themselves clashing over the ECW World Championship. Hardy emerged victorious in the inaugural Championship Scramble match against Henry at Unforgiven 2008.
