Commentary team member Vic Joseph shares his own view of his time on WWE NXT’s Monday Night RAW, admitting that he did not manage to truly integrate himself into the role. He replaced Michael Cole as RAW’s narrator during the games in September 2019. However, Tom Phillips took over his position by January 2020.
Joseph candidly recollected his brief stint on the leading wrestling brand during a recent episode of the “Rosenburg Wrestling” podcast. He stated:
“I look at it as a failure, because if it wasn’t a failure, I’d still be doing the show. I thank Paul Heyman for giving me that opportunity … he always tells me, ‘You didn’t fail. It was just a bad situation.’ I look at it a little bit differently because I’m a little bit harder on myself, but man, if you go back and listen to 2019 Vic Joseph and you listen to 2024 Vic Joseph, it is night and frickin day.”
Joseph revealed that he grappled with the implementation of graphic visuals and scene changes during RAW broadcasts, which often caused him to lose focus on the unfolding action.
Despite this setback, Joseph, who is the current broadcasting voice for WWE NXT alongside Booker T, retains an optimistic outlook on his experience with RAW. His reflection:
“If I didn’t have that failure, I would not have known how to succeed. Coming back in 2020 with ‘NXT,’ I’ve been in this seat ever since. I have felt that every year I have gotten better, and I do feel that it’s, like, my home, [and] for lack of a better phrase, my show.”
