Updated Details On WWE’s Negotiations With New Japan, Daniel Bryan’s Involvement

wwe and new japan

Despite the reported talks between WWE and New Japan Pro-Wrestling, it doesn’t look like an exclusive working agreement between the two sides will happen any time soon.

According to a report in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the negotiations between the two sides was not an idea presented by Nick Khan, but sources close to the negotiations stated he’s been the “point man” on it recently. It was also noted that there’s speculation that Khan is the one that recommended pursuing the deal to Vince McMahon.

It was further explained that the potential WWE/New Japan deal is not a reactionary move to AEW, and while the talks could get as far as WWE’s previous bids to buy other Japanese promotions and AAA Mexico got, it’s “more than likely” this deal will not happen. WWE’s previous talks with Pro Wrestling NOAH, Stardom, Big Japan, Dragon Gate all ended without a deal going through.

Daniel Bryan’s name was also previously mentioned in a report by PWInsider that confirmed the New Japan talks with WWE, explaining that the “main crux” of those talks involved Bryan potential being involved. The Observer now states that despite him being discussed in the early talks, one source indicated he hasn’t been mentioned in any part of the talks between the two sides.
