It was previously reported that this year’s WWE Backlash 2023 pay-per-view event was a smashing success, breaking multiple company records. A new report details the numbers behind the show, including the number of traditional pay-per-view buys and Google search interest.
According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there were only 6,700 traditional pay-per-view buys for WWE Backlash 2023. However, this isn’t a bad thing and makes sense with the rise in Peacock viewership.
WWE Backlash was down 18.3% in pay-per-view buys from the previous year. Compared to Elimination Chamber 2023 in February, the show was down 41.7%.
WWE Backlash was likely affected by the other sporting events that weekend, including the UFC, Kentucky Derby, Canelo Alvarez vs. John Ryder, and the NBA & NHL Playoffs.
Google search interest was 200,000 (with Bad Bunny emerging as the top individual search), behind the Derby (3.3 million), Lakers (3.05 million), UFC (1.1 million), Celtics (1 million), and Warriors/Canelo Alvarez vs. John Ryder (700,000).
