Roman Reigns, the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, achieved this title over a year ago after he defeated then WWE Champion Brock Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania 38. While it was billed as a “unification” match, both championships have retained their lineages since and throughout his reign, Reigns prominently showcased both championship belts.
Recently, they were combined into a singular Undisputed WWE Universal Championship belt. This merging took place in honor of Reigns’ remarkable accomplishment of surpassing 1,000 days as Universal Champion.
The rationale behind featuring the now obsolete belts on television is twofold. Firstly, the WWE Championship belt symbolizes the extensive legacy of the WWE Title, which has existed since the 1960s. Conversely, the Universal Championship holds a more recent history as the premier title in WWE, gaining prominence during Reigns’ reign as champion. WWE intends to transfer this history and significance to the new gold championship by keeping the older belts on display.
