The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that WWE Money in the Bank 2023 had a “phenomenal” number of pay-per-view buys, with the show being broadcast on Peacock.
The event had 17,600 buys, up 82% from last year. The streaming numbers have increased while TV PPV has decreased. Money in the Bank 2023 didn’t air in primetime in the United States, unlike last year’s show.
Money in the Bank 2023 was down from WrestleMania 39 but far ahead of WWE’s other post-WrestleMania shows.
Satellite dish home-based PPV buys were over double from 2022 (AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II also had more satellite buys than last year).
While the cable numbers were up for Money in the Bank 2023, it wasn’t up to the extent that dish owners were. Late buyers of the event were less likely to also buy AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II than live buyers.
Meanwhile, AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II ended up just an inch below last year’s event following strong late PPV buys. The final total was 1.6% below last year’s total, which was 141,000.
TV pay-per-view numbers were 5.7% below Double or Nothing 2023 and streaming jumped 5%. Generally, streaming makes up around 70% of domestic buys and more internationally. Japan figures are not available at the moment. Overall, Forbidden Door II is up about 2% from Double or Nothing 2023.
Every AEW pay-per-view event since the 2022 edition of Forbidden Door has been in the 140,000 range, but the latest PPV was likely the second-highest behind Revolution 2023.
