AR Fox’s unexpected removal from the AEW All In 2023 Coffin Match, in which he was scheduled to team up with Swerve Strickland against Sting and Darby Allin, led to a sudden reshuffling of the match lineup. The alteration, which involved Fox’s departure from the Mogul Embassy and his shift to a babyface role, ultimately led to Christian Cage stepping in to take his place.
As we previously reported here on eWn (via Fightful Select), it had come to light that AR Fox has refrained from participating in international dates since 2016. Moreover, it appears he was not forthcoming about his ability to work outside the country with AEW, resulting in the decision to replace him with Christian Cage. The report had also highlighted that Fox enjoys a favorable reputation within the company. Nevertheless, the mishap did lead to a certain level of discontent directed towards Fox, contributing to the changes that transpired.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Fox’s expulsion from the Mogul Embassy was a punitive measure for his role in necessitating the match change. In Meltzer’s words,
“Christian replaced AR Fox. Fox had assured AEW that he could get into the country but they found out just days before that he couldn’t. As punishment they kicked him out of Mogul Enterprises and shot an angle for Christian to get in.”
