Seven Bucks Productions, led by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, is currently developing a new documentary series about the rise and subsequent collapse of WCW (World Championship Wrestling), scheduled to debut on June 4.
Serving as executive producers, Johnson and Dany Garcia are working on the project “Who Killed WCW?”. WCW was initially established by Ted Turner in 1988. However, the wrestling organization went under in 2001, and its assets were later purchased by WWE.
The documentary series aims to illuminate the different factors that contributed to WCW’s collapse. It will explore troubles within the organization’s management framework and the creative decisions made during the infamous Monday Night Wars. Featured in the series are exclusive interviews with wrestlers, industry executives, and insiders, giving an intimate look at individual stories and struggles they faced.
Additionally, the series will contain unseen footage documenting the creation of the last WCW Nitro episode aired in 2001.
In the words of the series creators, “We unearthed hours of never-before-seen documentary footage that captured the making of the last WCW Nitro in 2001. Here’s a sneak peek at some of this historic footage that is part of ‘WHO KILLED WCW?’, premiering Tuesday at 10PM on @vicetv.” This tweet was shared by the official account of Dark Side of the Ring on May 30, 2024.
