Tyrus described Thomas, the first openly transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division I national championship, as “cocky” though had not actually watched the race.

Speaking about his children, who go swimming, Tyrus said he’d be arrested for “snatching” a transgender swimmer out of a pool. He said,

My daughters all swim and if – and I go to as many meets as I can, and I’m watching because I’ll be the dad to get arrested for snatching one out of the pool.”

Last month, Tyrus said he would assault his children if they shared their preferred pronouns.

Tyrus lost the NWA Worlds Championship to EC3 at last month’s NWA 75 and per the stipulation of the match, has retired from in-ring competition.

Former NWA Worlds Champion Tyrus recently made controversial comments regarding transgender athletes, specifically targeting transgender children participating in swimming competitions. During an episode of FOX News’ show “Gutfeld!”, Tyrus discussed the performance of transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, who tied for fifth place in the 200 freestyle final at the NCAA Women’s Championships in February 2022.

Tyrus, who had not actually watched the race, described Thomas as “cocky.” He then went on to express his concern about his own children swimming alongside transgender swimmers, stating that he would be willing to be arrested for “snatching” a transgender swimmer out of the pool. He said, “My daughters all swim, and if – and I go to as many meets as I can, and I’m watching because I’ll be the dad to get arrested for snatching one out of the pool.”

These comments from Tyrus are not only offensive but also perpetuate harmful stereotypes and discrimination against transgender individuals. It is important to note that transgender athletes, like Lia Thomas, have the right to compete in sports according to their gender identity. Policies and regulations are in place to ensure fair competition and inclusivity for all athletes.

This is not the first time Tyrus has made controversial statements regarding transgender issues. Last month, he stated that he would assault his own children if they shared their preferred pronouns. These remarks demonstrate a lack of understanding and empathy towards transgender individuals and their experiences.

It is worth mentioning that Tyrus recently lost the NWA Worlds Championship to EC3 and, as per the stipulation of the match, has retired from in-ring competition. However, his comments continue to generate backlash and highlight the importance of promoting acceptance and respect for all individuals, regardless of their gender identity.

In conclusion, Tyrus’ comments regarding transgender athletes, particularly transgender children participating in swimming competitions, are offensive and discriminatory. It is crucial to support and advocate for inclusivity and fairness in sports, allowing transgender individuals to compete according to their gender identity. Education and awareness are key in challenging harmful stereotypes and promoting acceptance for all athletes.
