In a recent discussion on the “Inside the Ropes” podcast, WWE Hall of Fame inductee Trish Stratus shed light on her choice to adopt a villainous character during her feud with Becky Lynch in the previous year.
Highlights from the enlightening conversation can be found below:
During the discussion, Trish Stratus opened up about her transition to a villainous role, she said, “I’m the kind of person who enjoys surprising the audience. So, I wanted to switch things up a bit. As an artist, I felt challenged to take up a heel run, something I hadn’t explored for many years.”
Sharing the original plan for her transition to the role of a villain, she recounted, “Lynch rang me and proposed a comeback match with her at WrestleMania. We toyed with the idea of my character betraying Lita, taking advantage of the two-decade-long friendship, which would stir up more emotions than a feud with me and Lynch, considering our lack of televised history. Indeed, I was only supposed to make a brief appearance post-WrestleMania, switch to the dark side, stir things up a bit, and that’s it. However, before I knew it, my character was intertwined in plot twists and turns every week for the next six months.”
Stratus and Lynch settled their differences in an action-packed steel cage match at WWE Payback 2023. Lynch, hailed as “The Man”, emerged victorious in this final showdown against the Hall of Famer.
