Donald Trump, the former U.S. President, is no stranger to professional wrestling. His association with the sport began during the era of WrestleMania IV and V, which were held at a locality associated with him, the Trump Plaza.
WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H, made an appearance on the “Flagrant” podcast alongside Andrew Schulz where he gave his view on the polarizing figure who has dealt with legal issues. Triple H stated,
“Our president at WWE, Nick Khan, often makes the point, ‘Charisma triumphs above all — regardless of your political stance. It’s charisma that prevails in debates.’ And looking back historically, it’s quite true. Regardless of your personal perceptions, Trump oozes charisma. He has an uncanny ability to stir people’s emotions, marking a truly unique genius in it.”
Further on, he stated, “Do I suspect that he acquired this from wrestling? I don’t think so. This seems to be deeply sewn into his character. There are plenty of billionaires in the world, yet he had a knack for attracting headlines and featuring on the cover of PEOPLE magazine. How come he was seen as the epitome of prosperity and status? It boils down to his personality, his aura — he’s adept at drawing attention. That’s instrumental in his successes so far.”
Worth mentioning, Trump’s close affiliation with WWE also stems from knowing Linda McMahon, mother-in-law to Triple H, and a former Administrator of the Small Business Administration under Trump. Currently, she’s the lead at the U.S. Department of Education.
In preparation for the upcoming WrestleMania 41, WWE spent several weeks in various international locations including the U.K and Spain, hosting episodes of WWE RAW and SmackDown.
They have already planned a return to Paris for the WWE Clash In Paris event.
During his “Flagrant” podcast feature, Triple H additionally shared insights on WWE’s international expansion. He shared,
“This year will see us in Paris, France — it’s going to be a fantastic experience. We’re also heading back to Perth, Australia. The Middle Eastern audience always shows great support. South America is still untapped from our end. But we’ve got plans for Mexico and numerous other places — we’re all set to go.”
