Professional wrestling witnessed a significant shift on January 6, when WWE RAW debuted on Netflix, ending its long-standing relationship with cable television dating back to its inception in 1993.
BBC’s Peter Gillibrand had a conversation with the WWE boss, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, to address any confusion about the collaboration between Netflix and WWE.
Levesque stressed that Netflix does not exert any creative control over the program’s content. As he put it,
“We are responsible for creating the superstars and the storylines. We handle all of that while the audience watches.”
The only role Netflix plays, as the WWE COO further explained, is determining
“the duration of the show, the timing of our conclusion, or our airtime. Regarding the content of the shows… no one tells the NFL how to play football. They simply distribute our product.”
