Winning the WWE NXT Championship was just the first chapter of a long story for Trick Williams if WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray is to be believed.

Williams captured the title from Ilja Dragunov this week during NXT Spring Breakin’ (Night One) in what is expected to be Dragunov’s send-off from NXT.

On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Bully Ray explained why Trick will need to continue to show growth despite reaching the top of NXT. He said,

“They have to see enough of him to where they go, ‘Alright. We put the NXT Championship on him. We handed him the ball. He has done very well with it. His matches have gotten better. His promos have gotten better. The fans chant for him even louder if that’s possible. Okay, we have something strong for him on the main roster. Let’s bring him up now and plug him in and see how he’ll do.’

“Because the objective in WWE is not just to stay great in ‘NXT.’ It’s to constantly move up the ladder of success, make more money, higher up on the card, and become a worldwide draw for the company.”

Williams signed with WWE in early 2021 and was thrust into a team with Carmelo Hayes that same year before breaking out as a singles star last year.

Hayes is expected to be called up to the main roster as part of the upcoming WWE Draft. Ilja Dragunov is also expected to be moved as part of the draft.

Trick Williams’ NXT Championship Win Marks the Beginning of a Promising Journey

In a stunning turn of events, Trick Williams emerged victorious in the highly anticipated NXT Championship match against Ilja Dragunov during NXT Spring Breakin’ (Night One). This triumph not only solidified Williams’ position as a rising star in the WWE, but it also marked the start of an exciting chapter in his career. However, according to WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray, this achievement is just the beginning of a long and challenging journey for the newly crowned champion.

During a recent episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Bully Ray shed light on the expectations that come with holding the NXT Championship. He emphasized that Williams must continue to show growth and improvement despite reaching the pinnacle of success in NXT. Ray explained, “They have to see enough of him to where they go, ‘Alright. We put the NXT Championship on him. He has done very well with it… Okay, we have something strong for him on the main roster. Let’s bring him up now and plug him in and see how he’ll do.'”

Ray’s comments highlight the ultimate objective in WWE, which extends beyond excelling in NXT. The goal is to constantly ascend the ladder of success, both financially and in terms of positioning on the card, ultimately becoming a global draw for the company. Williams’ ability to captivate audiences with his in-ring performances and charismatic promos will play a crucial role in determining his future trajectory within WWE.

Trick Williams joined WWE in early 2021 and initially formed a tag team with Carmelo Hayes. However, it was his breakout as a singles competitor last year that truly showcased his potential as a future main event player. With Hayes also expected to be called up to the main roster as part of the upcoming WWE Draft, Williams will now have to navigate his solo career path.

The WWE Draft presents a significant opportunity for both Williams and Dragunov, as they are expected to be part of the roster shake-up. This move will provide them with fresh challenges and opportunities to prove their mettle on a larger stage.

As fans eagerly await Williams’ next move, it is clear that he possesses the talent and potential to make a lasting impact in WWE. His journey from capturing the NXT Championship to potentially ascending to the main roster is poised to captivate audiences and solidify his status as a force to be reckoned with in professional wrestling.
