Wilson was released from her WWE contract on May 8, 2008, and she subsequently retired.

You can check out the highlights from the podcast below:

On how she got started in WCW: “I met Kevin Nash, and he had remembered seeing me in a green bikini in a fitness magazine and had asked me if I’d be interested in doing this little three-month storyline that they had – this idea for Ric Flair and his son David Flair, and I was like, ‘Sure.’ I actually started working with an agent that was also Hulk Hogan’s agent, so there was like a little bit of a tie-in right there. So he kind of knew the rope.”

On getting the opportunity: “At first I was kind of like, ‘I don’t know, I want to be an actress.’ I was broke, and this opportunity came and I was like, ‘Shoot, I could travel a little bit.’ That’s all I really wanted to do growing up, was see the world. That thing just kind of snowballed so fast.”

On her back issues: “I’m in better shape probably, but my back doesn’t think so. … I was kind of at this chapter in my life where I was just kind of ready to not be traveling all the time. The person that I was dating had been fired, so it was nice to be home. I had just opened up a clothing store in Texas, I was like, ‘Okay I can do this, I don’t need to travel anymore,’ so I just basically asked if I could have my release.”

Torrie Wilson, a WWE Hall of Famer, recently opened up about her wrestling career and the challenges she faced along the way. In a podcast interview, she discussed how she got started in WCW, her back issues, and ultimately her decision to retire from WWE.

Wilson revealed that her journey in professional wrestling began when Kevin Nash reached out to her. Nash had seen her in a fitness magazine wearing a green bikini and thought she would be a good fit for a three-month storyline involving Ric Flair and his son David Flair. Wilson, who initially wanted to pursue acting, saw this as an opportunity to travel and agreed to give it a try.

Working with an agent who also represented Hulk Hogan, Wilson quickly found herself immersed in the world of wrestling. The opportunity snowballed, and she became a prominent figure in the industry. However, her success came at a price.

Wilson’s back issues became a major concern for her. Despite being in better shape overall, her back problems persisted. Wrestling takes a toll on the body, and Wilson realized that she was ready to step away from the constant traveling and physical demands of the sport. Additionally, her personal life played a role in her decision. Her partner had been fired, and she wanted to focus on other ventures, such as her clothing store in Texas.

In 2008, Wilson made the difficult decision to request her release from WWE. On May 8th of that year, she was granted her release and subsequently retired from professional wrestling. It was a bittersweet moment for Wilson, as she had achieved great success in the industry but knew it was time to prioritize her health and personal life.

Throughout her career, Torrie Wilson left an indelible mark on the world of professional wrestling. From her beginnings in WCW to her time in WWE, she captivated audiences with her athleticism and charisma. Although her wrestling career may have come to an end, Wilson continues to inspire others with her story of perseverance and the importance of prioritizing one’s well-being.
