In a recent episode of his podcast “What Happened When”, Tony Schiavone, announcer for AEW, offered his insights on the conflict between Hulk Hogan and Vader. He also discussed why Hogan would potentially face difficulty fitting into today’s pro-wrestling world.
Here are some notable moments from the podcast:
Discussing the drama between Hogan and Vader, Schiavone shared: “In my opinion, the tension which was visible when we played the package was genuine. The backstage incident at WWE was real. If this were to turn into a free-for-all, who would emerge the victor? Despite all the criticisms and the persona that Hogan played, I believe he was more resilient than most would think.”
Touching on whether Hogan could manage to click in present times: “Analogous to how ’80s music wouldn’t quite fit in today, the same goes for Hulk. Hogan was a brilliant performer during what I consider to be the best decade, the ’80s. I was raising my family and was married during that time. However, the ’80s are memorable, amongst other things, for the craze that was Hulkamania. So, while he was a world champion back then, it’s less likely Hogan would enjoy the same status today.”
His podcast then features the episode “WHW: SuperBrawl V” which is available for viewers to enjoy.
