During his latest episode of his “What Happened When” podcast, AEW announcer Tony Schiavone reflected on the potential fitting conclusion to the nWo storyline.

Discussing the ideal closure to the NWO storyline, Schiavone said, “A relevant conclusion would have been involving Sting. Sting, as we know, was their adversary, supposedly, throughout the entire saga. And yes, we did have the Wolfpac, the Sting with the red face, and even Hulk Hogan returned to HulkaMania, right? However, I think it would have been great if the storyline had been expanded to have Sting challenge Hogan, prevail over Hogan, leading to the dissolution of the NWO from there.”

“I admit that there are more elements to be incorporated to enhance this narrative, but that would have been my central concept. I often return to this thought — which is reflected in my comic book — that creatively, our company began to decline when Sting didn’t defeat Hogan outright at Starcade.”

Regarding his most cherished Hulk Hogan moments that he was called upon to narrate, Schiavone stated, “I believe it has to be Hogan’s transformation. It must be, if not on the top of the list, very close. My spontaneous exclamation of ‘Hogan, you can go straight to hell!’ was entirely improvised. Until that pivotal moment occurred, I had not even contemplated uttering these words. And this is the moment that resonates most powerfully with me.”
